The working principle of finned tube heat exchanger


When hot water or steam passes through the finned tube heat exchanger base tube, the heat is transferred to the inner wall of the base tube through convection, and the inner wall transfers the heat to the outer wall and fins through heat conduction, and the outer wall and fins finally heat the surrounding air by forced convection and radiation to achieve the heating purpose.

The finned tube heat exchanger is usually used for heating and cooling air and is suitable for applications where the convective heat transfer coefficients of the fluids on both sides differ significantly, such as heating air with saturated steam or cooling materials with air, and is therefore used in modern process industries for heating air to dry materials in various types of drying equipment. When the air flows outside the tube, the convection heat transfer coefficient is very small. When the tube is equipped with fins, it enhances the turbulence of the air outside the tube and increases the exterior area of the heat exchanger tube, thus greatly improving the heat transfer effect.


The finned tube heat exchanger for heating air is mainly used in baking rooms, baking tunnels, dryers, and other equipment to raise the temperature of the air to accommodate more moisture and achieve the purpose of transferring moisture from the material to the air.
