How to Deal with Fouling of Welded Plate Heat Exchanger?

Insoluble in water solids

Soluble substances in water

Calcium and magnesium ions in the water will precipitate and adhere to the heat exchange surface under certain conditions, forming scale and reducing heat transfer performance. The greater the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in water, the higher the temperature of the water, and the greater the possibility of scale formation. Scale is too thick will seriously affect the heat transfer capacity of the heat exchanger, and some will even block the heat exchanger channel. Any kind of welded plate heat exchanger should not use this water directly, must be pre-treated water to reduce the content of calcium and magnesium ions in the water. Cleaning

Depending on the application of the fully welded plate heat exchanger, different methods are available for cleaning. Cooling tower circuit condenser, its water quality is poor, available chemical cleaning, backwashing, or a combination of both to remove the dirt. If the fouling is mainly caused by sedimentation, regular on-site backwashing is the simplest and most effective option. However, if scale buildup occurs, chemical treatment is necessary. A neutral or weak acid cleaning agent can be used to clean the heat exchanger in the opposite direction at approximately twice the conventional flow rate. Circulate through the system in the opposite direction to normal use (usually 24 hours). After the system is cleaned, it should be flushed with water for at least 30 minutes.
