History of Heat Exchangers

Publish Time: 2023-07-14     Origin: Site

Heat exchangers are devices used to transfer heat from a hot fluid to a cold fluid to meet specified process requirements and are an industrial application of convective heat transfer and heat conduction. Heat exchangers can be classified in different ways. Its operation process can be divided into three main categories: inter-wall, hybrid, and heat storage. According to its surface compactness can be divided into two categories: compact and non-compact. Next, let's learn about the history of heat exchanger development.

Here is the content list:

  • Early Development

  • Further development

  • Current development status

Early Development

In the 1920s, the plate heat exchanger appeared and was used in the food industry. Plate instead of the tube made of the heat exchanger, compact structure, and good heat exchanger, so the successive development of a variety of forms. 1926, the British Austen Chun used indoor air return and outdoor air in a positive crossway. Because of the temperature difference and water vapor partial pressure difference between the airflow on both sides of the flat partition, heat transfer between the two airflows occurs simultaneously, causing a full heat exchange process. Through heat exchange to achieve indoor and outdoor air circulation built-in supply and exhaust fans, and two-way equal replacement, to suppress room temperature changes, so that the room maintains sufficient fresh air. In the late 30s, Sweden manufactured the first plate and shell heat exchanger for the pulp mill.

Further development

Around the 1960s, due to the rapid development of space technology and cutting-edge science, there was an urgent need for a variety of high-efficiency compact heat exchangers, which, together with the development of stamping, brazing, and sealing technologies, further improved the heat exchanger manufacturing process, thus promoting the flourishing and widespread use of compact plate-and-shell heat exchangers. In addition, since the 1960s, in order to meet the high temperature and high-pressure conditions of heat exchanger and energy-saving needs, the typical shell and tube heat exchanger has also been further developed. the mid-1970s, in order to strengthen heat transfer, the research, and development of heat pipes were based on the creation of heat pipe heat exchangers.

Current development status

The heat exchanger industry involves HVAC, pressure vessels, water treatment equipment, the chemical industry, petroleum, and other nearly 30 kinds of industries, forming an industrial chain with each other. Data show that in 2010, China's heat exchanger industry market size of about 50 billion yuan, mainly concentrated in petroleum, chemical industry, metallurgy, electric power, ships, central heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning, machinery, food, pharmaceuticals, and other fields. Among them, the petrochemical field is still the largest market for the heat exchanger industry, with a market size of 15 billion yuan. The domestic heat exchanger industry has made significant achievements in research on energy saving and efficiency, improving heat transfer efficiency, reducing heat transfer area, reducing pressure drop, and improving the thermal strength of the device.

The above is the development history of heat exchangers. At present, the heat exchanger market in China has also been on the right track. Many manufacturers are currently engaged in the manufacturing of heat exchangers. If you want to know more about heat exchangers, you can pay attention to Shanghai Jiangxing Chemical Equipment Co.Ltd. The heat exchangers produced by this company are exported overseas and cover many countries.
